tow skipped class

I skipped class today. I went to my first class from 9:30-12:30. My next class was at 1:10 but it was just tooooo hot. I figured by the time I get home I would melt. So I hopped on the bus (which came very quickly!) got home. My lovely lovely lovely parents brought me an airconditioner yesterday. Oh My God! It is bliss. My roomate has been invited to my room and I am going to pay 75% of the electric bill, so don't think I mean or anything. I put a thermomater (how the heck do you spell that?!) on the window. Here,

100_03891

You guys see that? It is almost 100 degrees. Instead of going to class I took a nice nap. mmm, naps. I love naps! According to the Natinal Weather Service people tomorrow is going to be 91, but it'll feel like 100 (40 C). Augh! Oh they also have this warning
A STAGNANT WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH WEDNESDAY FOR SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN. VERY LIGHT WINDS AND A STRONG TEMPERATURE INVERSION ALOFT ARE PREVENTING AIR FROM MIXING...AND POLLUTED AIR IS BEGINNING TO ACCUMULATE NEAR THE GROUND. SMOKE...DUST...GASES...AND EXHAUST WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD THROUGH WEDNESDAY.
Not quite sure what "stagnant weather pattern" means, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow, I'll keep you posted! I put a little "how hot is it" thing on the left side of my blog so you can see at any time how hot it is in Madison. (I think you can change the city too, not sure) I'll take it down once the weather gets back to normal, I think.
I am eating cherries as I write this. Another thing you might now about me is that I can tie a cherry stem in to knot in my mouth. I think it was my friend who told me I couldn't do it, so I tried and I tied it! I just remeber when I was little I used to hang cherries over my ears, pretending they were earrings!
Saturday Jess & I went to listen to a speech given by Rachel Corrie's parents. You know, the girl who got ran over with a bulldozer when she was trying to save a Palestenian family's house from getting destroyed. Sigh, that was really depressing, but encouraging at the same time. There are good people out there who are trying to help a just cause. It is so sad the way she was killed....
After the speech our little group (Jess, her husband, Hulya abla, and her husband, plus mucteba) went to Hulya abla's house. When we were leaving the church the speech was at the men decided to get movies. We told them to get a "romantic-comedy." Yeah, right. They ended up getting "The Casino" 10th anniversary edition, and Resevoir Dogs. Yup, no romantic comedy. We protested and decided that we weren't going to watch anything at all. Now check out this picture Jess named "the crime scene." While we were waiting for the men to bring the romantic comedy Hulya abla decided to make some snacks. Whoa! She went overboard as can be seen in this picture,

Would you look at all that junk food?! That is Jess and me on the floor "passed out" from all the simple carbs in our system. Putting the candy in our mouth's was Jess' husband's idea!

100_03821

This adorable creature is Mucteba. He is Hulya abla's son. I was playing "peek-a-boo" with him. He was laughing like crazy. Then I started saying "Coe-ee" which is I guess the Turkish sound for "peek-a-boo" he laughed at that too. Then for experiment I tried various other noises, and he laughed at all of them. I guess the babies just like people peeking at them behind objects. I do remember something in Psych class Piaget dude and how babies think something they can't see is gone. Hmm, too lazy to look it up. If anyone knows, do share!

My lovely roomate left me some love on my message board. Again, paranoid so blurred my name. The giraffe she drew is wishing me good luck. Also she (Claire not the giraffe) is keeping tabs on my swearing. According to her once I reach 50 I will owe her $25. Yes, I confess I have a bad habit of swearing. Once I was with a friend and I told him I should put some money in a jar everytime I swore. He said if I put a penny everytime I swore, he would buy a car the next day. I really have to cut down my swearing. So not lady like. And you know me, always prim and proper lady!

Whoo -hoo we got a new garbage can! Our old one was round and the bag kept falling inside driving us crazy. So my mom got us a new one. Here you can see our tiny kitchen. It is really tiny. It's not much of a kitchen either, more like a "kitchen area" I guess you can say.
That's all for now. Me go sleep

tow field trip

You know how hot it was today in Madison Wisconsin??? Any guesses? It was 98 degrees. That would be 37 in celcius. And that was outside. I live on the 3rd floor. We have no attic, my floor is the attic basically. I took a little nap, and I woke up I couldn't breathe. It was like a sauna in my room. I hopped on the bus and got myself to an air conditioned place, Memorial Library. When I am writing this the weather really cooled down, I can thear the thunder outside. We are supposed to have a big storm tonight. I am really scared of thunder.
Enough with the weather report! I had fun today. I got to visit the newsroom of the Wisconsin State Journal and chat with the investigative reporter Andy Hall. I learned tons. I also learned that he is teaching a section of J335 for fall. Crap, I am not in it. I e-mailed my advisor to see if somehow I can switch. It is kinda hard because it is not a lecture room, it is a computer lab. Sigh, I really hope I can get into his section.
Tomorrow I am going to the Turkish Cooking class. Those things are always so much fun. We are going to make Baklava. Yum! That is going to be the high point of my day (quite possibly the week). I will take pictures of the delicious food!
Happy birthday goes to Alex today. He turned 20.

It was really nice, I got to meet the mayor and whole bunch of alderpersons. Here is the pic of me w/ rest of the winners. The photographer took a zillion shots, so I am going to have better photos in a few weeks.

tow lots of sleep

I missed sleep. A lot. I had my alarm clock set up at 11:30. Yeah right. After hitting snooze about four times I decided to turn it off and sleep as much as I can. The next time I woke up it was almost 3 P.M.! That was really very nice. I was up past 3 in the morning yesterday. I finished unpacking (more on that coming up). When I was unpacking I caught my friend Tayfun online. Uh, speaking of Tayfun, he graduated with his bachelors in Industrial Engineering!!! I am so proud of him. Get this, he got into Texas A & M for a PhD program and they are going to hire him after he graduates. Now that is some major brains. Why are every single one of my friends are smarter than me? Seriously, I can not think of a single friend whom I feel smarter than. This also goes for relatives!
Hmm, while I ponder this you guys look at some pics of my room. There is a very slim chance that it'll stay this neat, so good thing I have pics to look at!!

100_0335

I love this part of my room. The cloth hanging in the background was given to me by Claire. It was too pretty to just use it as a bed sheet, so I hung it up. I just started putting some stuff on the sheet. I am planning on adding more stuff as my life in Madison progresses. You can also see some of my Eeyores.

100_0334

Now this is the favorite part of my room. It functions as a sofa and a desk. I don't like sofas or desks, because I never use them. And they end up being places I throw stuff on anyway. I used to have a similiar arrangement in my first apartment too. The bed on the floor is actually taken from an old futon. My grandma (ever talented lady she is) made a cover for it. You can also see my lappity toppity! To quote a friend, "it's sexy." On the wall I have my beloved Anne Geddes photos. I hung my necklaces on the wall as well.

100_0336

Yawn, not so exciting part of my room. Well it is where I sleep, so it doesn't have to be very exciting eh? Not much to say about this part, it is a bed with my dresser next to it.
I only have one more box left to unpack. It is my fancy clothes. I am not quite sure where to put them, so I am waiting till my parents come to visit me tomorrow so my mom can figure something out.
I am going to spend the rest of the day doing homework. I have a five page paper due on Friday and a midterm on Thursday. I also have to go to Milwaukee on Tuesday to accept the scholarship. A busy week awaits me. I'll survive it, I survived worce!

tow lil' bro's graduation

I am back with graduation pictures as promised. I am so proud of my brother. He received four awards (spelling, attendence, academic achievement, citizenship) and on top of that he got the "Presidential Gold Award." Now we have a signed paper by the W hanging on our wall. It was so hot in the auditorium. No airconditioner!! They sang "I believe I can fly." My brother read his essay on how his school prepared him for the future. My mom, of course, was teary eyed for the whole ceremony! Here are some pics,

There he is along with the other award winners. He is the second one from the right (in the gray shirt.)

Dad & Son

100_03171

And me of course. Check out that pink scarf. This might be the first time in my life that I wore a pink scarf. I don't really care much for pink, but I had no other nice scarves with me in Milwaukee

100_03251

Ad that's my mom., checking out my bro's report card. Get this, his reading level is 7.1--meaning 7th grade, first semester. YEAH!

100_03271

That's in front of his school.

100_03281

Ah, this is the "shoe shot." See the shoes he's wearing? That is his graduation present. Apperently they are made from gold. Well no not really, but they were a hundred bucks. I can't imagine blowing hundred bucks on a pair of shoes, which he'll outgrow in three months. My lovely flippty floppities were $15 on sale, thank you very much!

I finally got around to making more pics public on Flickr. If you want to see more graduation pics, and the rest of the camping trips pictures lets guide you this way, click or copy paste--whatever suits your fancy! http://www.flickr.com/photos/kelebek
So now I am back in Madison. I missed the first day of classes for the graduation thing. I am still in summer break mode. It is going to take a little getting used to get in to the right frame of mind to do work again. Blegh!
Now for some laughter. I recently posted on the hot chik's blog that I would like to "
Uh, uh I want to be an icecream flavor tester at Ben & Jerry's, and a "matress sleep goodness checker person" at Sealy! YEAH!" This was Theresa's reply
K}{ - I'm giggling as I imagine your cute little Turkish self curled up in a big 'ol bed covered in fine Egyptian linens, surrounded by a bunch of stuffed Sealy Sheep, while a team of well coiffed butlers serve you Ben & Jerry's in crystal dessert dishes with little silver dessert spoons. It's your destiny!

Oh yes, now that's what I call destiny!. Love the part about "well coiffed butlers."

tow burcu's

I just heard Staind's new single. The album comes out on August 9th. And get this people, they are coming to Milwaukee on August 27th. I wish I can go see them!!
I stayed over at Burcu's house yesterday. I missed that girl so much. And of course my boyfriend was there too. He can say my name now. When he wants to be picked up he says "up." Funny thing is when he wants to be put down he says "up." So I was trying to teach him to say "down." We watched Vizontele, for the fourth time-- well for me, Burcu saw it for the first time. We had a watermelon crisis. For those who don't know I am a watermelon lover. Check out the pictures with me and the watermelon from the Turkish picnic. I can pretty much eat a whole watermelon by myself. We walked 11:30 at night to the grocery store and carried the watermelon home. We also finally updated my boyfriend's picture's blog. There is a link under my links called, "Karadeniz Family, The cutest baby"
I had my interview at the Time Warner cable. I applied for a scholarship there. I am going to be so so happie if I receive it. Prayers, good lucks, are as always appreciated.
