tow pics from milwaukee
"time is fun when you are having flies" said a frog! I do agree, but unfortunately for me the time is flying and its really no fun. I have so much more reading to get through. Its not just the reading part. I have to read and answer questions. I don't have to answer the questions, but I got a C on the last exam so I really want to prepare for this one. Kohls (my mom's fave department store!) had a sale so I had to wake up at 7:51 A.M. and go shopping with her. The sale was 70 percent off, and my mom had a coupon for 15 percent off on everything, so we got lots of good stuff pretty cheap.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the SECOND year the bombing started. Read bout it in a blog that is rapidly becoming my favorite, Baghdad Burning It is the blog of a Iraqi Woman living in Baghdad. She writes canditly about the war, policies, and everyday life in Iraq. And yes, it is in English -flawless I might add! So go read it!!!
I finally got around to uploading some pics! so here they are.
Small part of my eeyore collection

tow meseli daglar
Whew, the culture nite was yesterday! It was a blast. I had such a good time watching all these diff asian/ southeast asian cultures. I got to see dances, listen to songs and poems. So it was great.
Oh wait, what am I forgetting? wht about the song you've been writing about the past week i hear you asking. yes, we did sing! even more we had to participate in a fashion show, which was not wht we signed up for. so this is how the day went down. at 8:30 in the morning we had our final practice. rachel called n wake me up when she got to my apartment and we went to practice. now if u personally know me, than you know i am NOT a morning person. so i was crabby and tired. but i still managed to participate. i took the bus to my next class w/ my friend. got done w/ class and came home around 11:30. i was planning on napping till 1:30, cuz my next class was at 2:30. Well when I opened my eyes again, my room was dark. I sat up thinking "wait did i miss the event? is it night? is the next day, morning?!" than i looked at the time on my cellphone realizing it was 4:10! crap! i thought, than got ready. than rachel said she can come pick me up. we went to Union South (thts where we were having the performance.) Rachel and I got changed into our lovely Turkish outfits. Unfortunately I don't ve the pics emailed to me, so I'll present you w/ Alexe's description of wht we looked like "kipkirmizi olmussunuz" meaning we were head to toe red. i'll post the pics u can judge for urself. than Macid Bey (the Turkish teacher) decided he wanted Alex to bring his "ney" (its a turkish instrument) so rachel, me and Alex walked to his apartment to pick up the ney. we were walking in the snow, it is kinda thought to do wearing shalwar (salvar, them loose pants type pants) rachel and I were practicing our "Meseli Daglar" song. When we were walking back we got a call saying we have to come back quick cuz we had to be in the fashion show. So we pretty much ran back to Union South. I guess you'll ve to wait till i post pics our outfits to picture us running in the snow in our shalwar and winter jackets. I bet we looked pretty funny. (alex, rachel: the dude singing the "on bir ay" song is Yasar.)We made it in time to strut our stuff on the stage. Than we had to wait till Seppi showed up (he was taking a test so he coudl'n come until later). Our big moment came around hmm i think 7:30. Now I might not exactly be objective, but I think we were the best act! We sang the song without a hitch, clapped our spoons in unison, and looked awesome all around. most importantly rachel & I acted seriously. we got big applouse too. the rest of the night we watched the other acts, ate real good food and hung around the Turkish table. after the performance me and alex walked to the lib. i had to wrk on two pprs due and alex was wrking on his senior thesis. damn, i think he gotta write like 70 pages minumum. he said it was somethig about Turkey entering EU will be good for economy, i think i don't remember it word for word.
hmm today was not tht fascinating. i had the infamous writing lab for 3 hours. i am working on this informative story thing. writing a feature story about some gun law suit issue. than i got home, took a nap of course! Daily Cardinal meeting, which the staff was required to "come with suggestions, praise and most importantly, how much you think Alex and I suck." (quote from Nathan, our managing editor) i thought it was an intersting meeting. and for the record I don't think neither Alex nor Nathan sucks, but on the other hand a certain news editor sucks!!!!!!!!!! whole f*cking semester I do one, one, ONE f*cking story. grr, don't get me started on tht. after tht i went back home, got some food. now I am at the college library, supposedly catching up on my J565 (effects of mass comm) class. ok, me go do these readings. I am like God, 3 weeks behind. EEEEK!
oh almost forgat, I got a new picture of my boyfriend!!! burcu u rock girl! here he is, now tell me how can anybody not fall in love with this little guy? say MasaAllah!!!

tow fun & bzy day
I think who ever said, be careful what u wish for was very wise. I ve been complaining about having boring days. Well today I was out non stop since 8 in the morning. Right now its 12:33. I'll summarize the high points.
On march 10th there is going to be a culture night. The Turkish students are going to be performing a song too. Somehow I agreed to help out and sing with them. Now, I have no vocal abilities whatsoever. But I figured it would be fun, and I know most of the people in class. We are singing a really fun turku, turku is like Turkish folk song. And we get to do this cool thing with wooden spoons, kinda hard to explain but u pretty much hold two spoons in a special way and clap em together, it sounds cool. Me and Rachel (see pic of her in previous photo, she's fluent in German, and now she's learning Turkish!) were having too much fun. I "attacked" her with my spoons. I think it would be a good idea to keep us away from each other when we really are singing. I am kinda nervous when I found out there is going to be around 300 ppl. Wish me luck ppl! i hope somebody takes some pics, I would love to post pics of me embarssing myself. After practice, Rachel, Alex (also turkish student, and my FAVE editor! :), don't ve pic of him thou), and I went out to get some lunch. In the morning I had very large amounts of cafeine, I was already hyper when we were practising, and I became really hyper when we were walking to get some food. Ehehe, I grabbed Rachel by the arm and we went skipping down Van Hise (a building!). I was thinking Alex would pretend like he doesn't know us, but he started skipping too. We finally decided to eat at Mediterian Cafe. When we were eating Alex told us tht when he was in turkey they gave him the name "Ahmet" So we decided to get a Turkish name for Rachel. After long deliberations, we finally settled on "Deniz" (which means the sea in Turkish). Well I felt left out, and I wanted an American name. Suggestions included: Sara, Molly, June (or was it April, Alex?!) and Stella. Finally Rachel and I agreed on Lilly. Alex didn't agree, but until he comes up with a better suggestions, my "official American name" is Lilly! I am a total sucker for lillies anways. They are GORGEOUS and smell so so nice!!! After lunch we went to Walgreens (its kinda like a mini mart). Rachel got some hair dye (as u can see in the previous pics she has black hair, her natural color is blonde thou, she looks pretty either way! :) Alex got toothpaste and shampoo. I was horrified to see a bottle of shampoo for $10.49. I mean seriously, almost 11 dollars for shampoo? what, does it have diamonds in it or something, sheesh! Anway, after tht adventure we walked down State Street. I think by this point Alex had enuf of Rachel and I, so he went back to his home. Ehehe, can't blame him for leaving, we are a handful to deal with!!! He did say he would read my blog. Unfortunately my tagboard is not cooperating, so I dunno if he was here. Incase he's reading "Hi my FAVORITE editor!!!" Rachel said she would read it too, so... "MERHABA DENIZ!!"
ehehe, good thing u left Alex, otherwise we would ve dragged u into a vintage store! We had a good time looking at clothes from old eras. I even tried a green 70's dress on. There is so much stuff there, so much history. I was fascinated. I fell in love with this baby blue suitcase from the 60's. I put it on hold. I might go back and buy it I guess.
I got home, got ready to go to my friend, Yasmin's house. Amber picked me and two other girls up. We had a good time there too. We watched Malcolm X. I was impressed with Denzel Washington's acting. I am in love with Yasmin's kids!! they are so so so adorable MasaAllah. I was wresting with Ibrahim, he's i think four something. I also got to play with Rahma too!! We also had some homemade pizza as well.
And now here I am typing all this up!! Going to pray now and pass out. I gotta work real hard this weekend. I have this take home essay exam for my South East Asia history class. I have to write six page essay on I think Dutch colonialism in the Indonesia versus US rule in the Philipines. Considering I missed 4-5 classes, and only done half of the required readings, it is going to be pretty though. So be my guest in feeling sorry for this poor girl!!!
Finally two things tht made me laugh today.
Me: PDQ's are everywhere.
somebody in the car: What does PDQ stand for?
Me: Pretty Damn Quick, I think.
A'laa: Really? I thought it was something like, Petrolium Dairy Queen
"Flushing the buffer" <-- The writing on the display screen of the printer, sounds dirty doesn't it. LoL!!!
