Do you have $79.99? Good than you can buy two dozen roses, in a vase for your valentine. Don’t have &79.99, no fret, for $59.99 you can get a dozen roses, n u still get the vase. Does your valentine "light up your life?" Great you can get him/her "You Light Up My Life" bouquet, complete with fiber optic lights, in case your point wasn't clear enough. This valentine's day craze is starting to get on my nerves. Where did I see these deals you might wonder? Hmm maybe at a florist. Nope. A card shop? No, try again. A boutique? Nah. I saw them at a GROCERY STORE !!! For God's sake, its not enough we have everyone from florists, to the chocolate makers, to the card industry cashing in on valentines day, but now we need grocery stores too? I picked up their sale flyer today. On the front page, it says in big flowery letters "HAPPY Valentine's DAY" Some hearts thrown around the page. Of course add some pink. Oh, and what is right underneath the flowery writing, and the pink hearts? Jennie-O Turkey Breast. Frozen, Grade A. 98 cents a pound. Well what says valentines day like a pound of turkey breast? Flipping through the pages, filled with pinks hearts and "be mine" writings I look at what they are advertising. So far my favorite is you light up my life bouquet. I almost spit up the soup I was eating when I read that. My second favorite is the sections titled "Just for you" with a pink header, surrounded by two "be mine" hearts. What are they selling? Sudafed Nasal Decongestant, Tylenol extra strength, and Playtex insulated cup. I guess if your valentine is sick u can give them this stuff, and feed them with an insulated cup. Yeesh! I was walking around mall. I walked by this place where they were selling chocolates. They had a pic of a man holding a box of chocolates –heartshaped of course, with the caption "imagine her surprise." Yeah what is her surprise? Uh, a heart shaped box of chocolates, boy am I surprised. Why is that most of this gift giving is aimed towards men? It goes back to the link company's try to impose between love and money. If you are man you should have the money for your love. And your love, the female, has to be the passive recipient in this. Think about it. If you want to buy your guy a gift for valentines day (which of course I strongly discourage, but hey its ur life!) what are ur options really? I can't think of too many men who would appreciate receiving a pink heart shaped box of chocaltes, along with not one but two dozen roses in a vase. I never really cared much for valentines day. First of all the timing is awfully convenient. Lets look at the holidays celebrated in the US, say starting around July. Of course there is the 4th of July. Lets bring out all the things red-white and blue, including M&M's! Than not much happens between July and October. Well there is sweetest day sometime in October. Halloween, bring out the candy and the costumes. Thanksgiving swings out, buy turkey, lots of it. Than the mother of it all, Christmas. Shop till u can't shop no more, than shop more. Right after Christmas, is of course new years. Buy party stuff! January 2nd the pink hearts come out! If it wasn’t for valentines day people won’t be buying a whole lot until may, for mothers day. I don't understand why anyone would celebrate this artificial holiday. But I am surprised out of all people Americans celebrate this. I mean from what I observed of Americans in general, they hate being told what to do. Than why do they obey so willingly when the industry dictates them to celebrate their love? Why does love always need to be associated with how much we are willing to buy? So if you receive the dozen roses, instead of the two dozen, does it mean your loved only half as much? Just ridicules really. Valentine's day is just something the companies decided to cash on, when they realize they can associate money with the most powerful feeling on earth. They should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting love for their own gains.
